The Member 4 portion of the DD 214 lists the type of separation, the character of service at discharge (honorable or otherwise) and the reason for separation. Also listed on the page are any military education received, their primary duties, their medals and campaign ribbons, and their dates of service and separation. Because I'm having the worst go of it.
Long story short, I still have my Member 2 but not my Member 4. Since the 4 has the nature of separation on it that's the one everyone wants for applying for benefits and the like. I was told to send a request in to the NPRC, did so, and was told what I wanted didn't exist there and directed to submit it to Army Human Resources Command. I sent in my request and a copy of my Member 2, they sent me back my initial enlistment paperwork and said thats all they had, hope it's enough, try VA eBenefits. After a week of trying to get that to work, I finally managed to get in and submit a request through DPRIS, who promptly told me that my records are not kept there and I need to contact NPRC.
Just running a big circle here. It's not like I'm a 'Nam vet here, I got out just seven years back, it shouldn't be that hard.
